Gator community continues to flourish

It is so amazing to continue to see great examples of community within our school day and in the offerings that are occurring outside the classroom. Our students and staff continue to work together in our pursuit of success through the joy of learning.

In the last two weeks, we have seen a number of highlights: our SRC hosted a pink day, our senior Arts Ed. students thrilled us with a performance of the “thriller dance” (see above), while some younger students Monster Mashed it up, our School Community Council (SCC) hosted a great Family dance, we celebrated the success of our QSP magazine fundraiser, and our Remembrance Day program was a moving experience for all that were involved and there.

halloween4halloween3A special thanks to our speaker, Mr. Jonah Toth, who joined us and issued a challenge to us to use the freedoms fought for by others to make a difference in our own worlds!

Some other items that I would like to highlight include: the continued way our volleyball teams represent our school, themselves, and their families with great enthusiasm; our SCC’s ongoing work supporting the school and the many initiatives that occur here; and lastly the outstanding efforts being made by our staff to meet every learner where they are and to work with them to help them grow to their utmost potential.

halloween2For your information our students (grade 4-8) and staff have recently completed a survey that is completed across our division entitled “Tell Them From Me.” Results will be shared with our staff and SCC when they become available. Also at our last SCC meeting our school’s Learning Improvement Plan (LIP) and summary of last year’s LIP results were shared with the group. The SCC is always open to new members so check the calendar for future events and meetings.

Some upcoming Gator events to be aware of:

  • Picture Retakes – November 13th
  • Mark Cutoff for Term 1 – November 18th

As mentioned in a letter home and on our website we will not be sending a monthly newsletter home so this will be the central place for information in addition to the website. We are also using Facebook and Twitter to provide information and highlights of things going on in the Gator Nation.

Please feel free to contact me anytime via email at mick.panko@rbe.sk.ca or stop by the school for a chat.
